Her subjects include buildings and their surrounding environments in various states of decay—some already crumbling, others still functional but approaching the end of their utility. These images resist simple categorization as "ruin photography"; they are neither archetypal nor innocuous enough to be dismissed as harmless remnants. Instead, they evoke a sense of unease, as though something ominous lies hidden within the landscapes.

Toshi has titled this series Ward 4, inspired by reflections during the COVID-19 pandemic. The "new ward" emerges as a metaphor for isolated spaces, cut off from human activity in efforts to contain the spread of infection.

Accompanying the exhibition is a “statement” presented as a single document titled Notice of Hospitalization. This document outlines the legal measures enacted to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, starkly exposing the power structures we often overlook. It invites viewers to question the boundaries—both physical and conceptual—that separate the inside and outside of a hospital ward.

Ward 4 reflects Toshi’s profound exploration of civilization and her keen observations of contemporary society.
