$30.00

Fifth Detention Center by Toshi (Signed)
Made by Toshi 2025
A handmade book, limited to 100 copies Signed.
Handmade 8.25 x 6 inches
Color 58 pages

Fifth Detention Center is fallow up of Third Ward and Fourth Ward where Toshi continue investigating northern Japan with snapshots of desolate buildings and landscapes in northern Japan.

Her subjects include buildings and their surrounding environments in various states of decay—some already crumbling, others still functional but approaching the end of their utility. These images resist simple categorization as "ruin photography"; they are neither archetypal nor innocuous enough to be dismissed as harmless remnants. Instead, they evoke a sense of unease, as though something ominous lies hidden within the landscapes.

Fifth Detention Center reflects Toshi’s profound exploration of civilization and her keen observations of contemporary society.
Takazawa Kenji

About Toshi: Toshi is a Hokkaido-based photographer whose artistic journey began after participating in the “Takazawa Kenji Seminar,” a program affiliated with the HOKKAIDO PHOTO FESTA. She later honed her craft by attending workshops led by Osamu Kanemura, where she was recognized as the 2021 Workshop Artist of the Year. Her first solo exhibition, Ward 3, was held in 2022 at The White gallery in Tokyo.
