Alejandro Kuropatwa (October 22, 1956 – February 5, 2003) was an influential Argentine photographer. Born in Buenos Aires to a family of Jewish immigrants, he studied photography at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York from 1979 to 1982. Returning to Buenos Aires, he captured iconic images of Argentine rock stars like Charly García, Gustavo Cerati, and Fito Páez, earning him the nickname "Argentine Andy Warhol." Openly gay, Kuropatwa was diagnosed with AIDS in 1984 but survived nearly 20 years thanks to new treatments. In 2002, he won the Konex Award and showcased his work at the Buenos Aires National Museum of Fine Arts. He died in 2003 from AIDS-related complications at the age of 47.
