Satoshi Machiguchi, founder of Match and Company, is one of Japan's leading book designers and art directors. Since the 1990s, he has designed numerous influential photobooks, including publications by Daido Moriyama. In addition to his design work, Machiguchi has edited and published books for the Japanese publisher Bookshop M under the photobook imprints M, M/Light, and MMM, producing more than 30 photobooks throughout his career. His work is presented annually at Paris Photo and distributed internationally.
The inaugural volume of 1000 brings together reproductions from 38 landmark postwar photobooks in a monumental publication spanning 1,024 pages. As readers turn its densely packed pages, they encounter condensed versions of seminal works, including Snow Country (Hiroshi Hamaya, 1956), New York (William Klein, 1956), Someday Somewhere(Yasuhiro Ishimoto, 1958), and The Americans (Robert Frank, 1958).
